DAILY SCHEDULE
Every day is different, but please enjoy looking over our schedule below to get a general idea of all the fun and learning that happens each preschool day. With our curriculum built-in through the entire day, your child is constantly learning and growing.
7:15 a.m. – Arrival/Free Play
We are so excited for everyone to arrive! We warmly welcome everyone in and allow them to choose where they want to work and play. Our many centers include Dramatic Play, Sensory, Art, Building, Literacy, Writing, and Science. We work on social, emotional, and language skills such as using our words, taking turns, being patient, negotiating conflicts, problem solving, etc.
8:30 a.m. – Table Time
We work on fine motor skills such as beading, manipulatives, cutting, gluing, puzzles, games, writing, arts & crafts, playdoh, etc.
9:00 a.m. – Recess
Our playground areas include play structures, swings, slides, sand boxes, balls, hula hoops, scooters, and more! You’ll think we’re just playing, but we’re actually working on our social, emotional, language, and gross motor skills as we run, jump, climb, swing, and create games.
9:45 a.m. – Circle Time
We gather together at the circle rug to work on our cognitive, social, language, and gross motor skills with our sharing time, calendar, weather, job helpers and music & movement.
10:15 a.m. – Morning Snack
We love working on our cognitive, social, language, and fine motor skills as we pour, measure, sort, count, chat, and enjoy eating together.
10:30 a.m. – Experiments
Summer Camp is the best time to get our hands messy and our brains thinking! Every day is a new and exciting, ooey-gooey science experiment for our students to try.
11:00 a.m. – Recess
We play extra hard during this recess to get all our energy out and really strengthen our gross motor skills.
11:30 a.m. – Lunch
After a long morning, we’re ready to start winding down. As we eat, we build our social and language skills as we chat about everything we’ve done that day.
12:00 p.m. – Quiet Time/Reading
We’ve played hard, and we’re ready to rest our bodies. Napping children set up their rest time area with a mat, a snuggly blanket and stuffed animal. Older children enjoy looking at books or reading quietly to each other.
1:00 p.m. – Small Groups
We group our students based on cognitive ability and goals. Our younger students will be doing hands-on activities to learn colors, shapes, letters, numbers, counting, and sounds; our older students will be working on math, writing, and reading.
2:00 p.m. – Recess
It’s time to stretch those legs! We go outside 3 times every day. Fresh air is so important! Even if it’s hot, we can still play under our covered patios or in our cool sandbox.
2:45 p.m. – Afternoon Snack/Closing Circle
We enjoy a healthy snack, then we head to circle time to listen to our teacher read us stories.
3:30 p.m. – Free Play Until Picked Up
As our day is wrapping up, it’s a great time for free play again! We build our social and emotional skills as we incorporate our learning into our play. As each friend gets picked up before 5 p.m., we give them a warm goodbye hug and can’t wait to see them again!
FAQ’s
Does my child have to be there from 7:15 a.m.-5 p.m.?
No. For maximum learning, we do recommend your child is dropped off no later than 8:30 a.m. and picked up anytime after 3:00 p.m., but you’re welcome to drop off and pick up your child any time between 7:15 a.m.-5 p.m.
When should I call to register my child?
It’s never too early to call, so call as soon as you even think about registering, because our classes fill up ridiculously fast!
Will my child be overwhelmed with learning all day?
We weave our preschool curriculum into the entire day so your child will never be bored or over-stimulated. Our learning is “just right.” Our daily schedule allows us to learn at our own pace as we delve deep into our learning units, immersing our students in fascinating life subjects. Each year we build on the learning from the previous year, so you can never start too early in setting the foundation for your child’s future success in life!
Does my child have to be potty trained?
Yes. If you have any questions about whether or not your child is ready, feel free to give us a call. We even have a “How To Potty Train” your child handout we can give you. It’s helped many Sunshine moms quickly potty train their kids. We’re here to help!
What is your teaching philosophy?
At Sunshine we follow a “whole child” philosophy where we work with you to improve your child’s Social, Emotional, Cognitive, Language, and Physical skills. Our curriculum is based on the NAEYC guidelines and features a balance of teacher-directed and child-initiated hands-on activities to accomplish these goals. We also incorporate Creative Curriculum and Handwriting Without Tears Curriculum. Your child will learn to socialize, make friends, develop social and emotional skills, and be more than ready for Kindergarten! To learn even more, click here.
Are there additional fees during the year?
No. Your registration fee covers all your child’s supplies and reserves a spot in our program. Your child won’t pay anything to attend our events and activities. Your child will also receive at no extra cost: a Sunshine shirt to wear on Spirit Day and a graduation portfolio! To see the Top 10 Reasons why you’ll love Sunshine, click here.
Wait, is this a daycare?
Absolutely not. Sunshine has been and always will be a premier private preschool. We focus first on a private preschool education with exceptional teachers and simply extend our hours to allow for working families to attend. In fact, several of the families who attend our All Day Preschool program are Kuna School District teachers.
What if my child has food restrictions?
No worries. Several of our students have food intolerances or severe allergies. We ask these families to bring in their own snacks, and we create nut-free classrooms any time a child’s allergy is severe enough to require an epi pen.
The greatest compliment we can receive is your referral. Thank you!
